Stolen innocence? Observance of the EU Directive on presumption of innocence by Spanish crime reporting

This paper examines the compliance of Spanish crime reporting with principles 2016 EU Directive on presumption innocence, which aims at preventing publication information that might bias public and jurors against suspect. A content analysis applied to a sample 200 news stories published by eleven most popular print online platforms in 2018 reveals press coverage is centered around pre-trial sentence stages, little attention oral trial.
